Broward HealthPoint representatives told the Pompano Beach City Commission the health system will place two mobile medical vans in the city for roughly two years and host a large free community health event there on Saturday, July 12.
Melita Akate, introduced as a corporate transformation executive with Broward HealthPoint, said the mobile vans are part of the “Stay Healthy Together” initiative. She said the program aims to bring primary care, nursing and social services to neighborhoods that rely on emergency departments as primary care because of lack of local access or insurance.
Event and schedule
Akate said the July 12 event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; city officials were asked to attend between about 11 a.m. and noon for a presentation. Broward HealthPoint also plans ongoing mobile-van deployments at the same location after the event: the vans will be at the site for three-day blocks and then in regular weekly service (Akate said, for example, a weekly Tuesday schedule at that location).
Services and partners
Akate described a broad set of clinical and social services to be present at the July 12 outreach day — primary-care clinicians, nurses, and social-services referrals — and said the mobile program is intended to be the same-access offer “regardless of ability to pay.” She said Broward HealthPoint worked with Pompano Beach Parks & Recreation staff and other local stakeholders in planning the outreach.
Commission response
Commissioners and the vice mayor thanked Broward HealthPoint for bringing services into neighborhoods and for coordinating with city staff. Vice Mayor Fournier thanked Akate “for bringing this here and for all that you do in the community,” and commissioners indicated they would attend the July 12 event.
What’s next
Broward HealthPoint will hold the July 12 event at the location discussed with Parks and Recreation; Akate said mobile-van service would continue on an ongoing schedule afterward. Residents and officials should contact Broward HealthPoint or the city’s Parks & Recreation department for precise location, appointment details and schedules.
