The clerk provided a semiannual report to the Jackson County General Government Committee detailing year-to-date court filings, vital records activity and outreach.
The clerk said the office handles circuit court filings — including civil claims over $25,000, felony criminal cases and domestic cases — and noted the office expects to process “over 3,500 cases per year.” She described the manual work required for circuit court pleadings: staff accept paper filings, docket and scan documents and maintain physical files.
The clerk reported restitution payments of roughly $155,000 paid to 577 victims in 2024 and a year-to-date figure of about $62,000 paid to 190 victims. She also reviewed birth, death and marriage-license activity and highlighted recent public-engagement efforts, including a mock election for school groups and correspondence with students interested in county government.
Committee members asked general questions about educational materials for outreach; the clerk said materials change frequently but that she would provide a one-page summary and resource list on request. The committee voted unanimously to receive the report.
