The Ontario SD 8C Board of Directors on June 2 approved a series of routine but consequential governance items, including a three-year extension of the superintendent’s contract, new labor agreements, several policy updates and the district’s summer-school schedule.
The board approved a superintendent contract extension covering July 1, 2025, through July 1, 2028. Board members discussed the length of the extension at the meeting and then voted to approve it by voice vote.
The board also ratified the classified employee agreement and the administrative agreement, both described in meeting materials as having been negotiated through the district’s bargaining processes. Board members collectively approved those agreements by voice vote.
Policy updates approved included AC (Nondiscrimination/Civil Rights), AC-AR (discrimination complaint procedure), JHFE/KN (child abuse reporting and investigation), JFE (pregnant and parenting students), GBN/JVA (staff harassment) and related updates listed on the agenda. The board approved the policy package on motion.
Other approvals included the district’s 2025 summer-school calendar and pay schedule and a change to the June board meeting date: the board moved its regular June meeting to June 30, 2025. The board also approved the superintendent’s goals for 2025–26, which emphasized long-term financial stability and literacy initiatives tied to district priorities and state goals.
In public comment, Kirsten Wheeler, speaking on behalf of the Ontario Education Association, proposed an awards program to name annual teacher awards after notable local educators and asked the board and community to contribute nominations; the board received the comment without formal action.
Votes on the individual motions were recorded in the meeting by voice vote; the transcript records unanimous “aye” responses for the motions presented. Where roll-call or named tallies were not recorded in the transcript, the board’s motions were described as passed by voice vote.
Items approved (high level): - Superintendent contract extension: July 1, 2025–July 1, 2028 (approved). - Classified agreement: ratified (approved). - Administrative agreement: ratified (approved). - Policy updates: AC, AC-AR, JHFE/KN, JFE, GBN/JVA and related policies (approved). - 2025 summer school calendar and payroll schedule: approved. - June board meeting date moved to June 30, 2025: approved. - Superintendent goals for 2025–26: approved.
Board members asked for continued clarity on budget implications of personnel and contract decisions and thanked staff for budget presentations earlier in the meeting. The board directed staff to bring the district audit and final budget items to the next meeting for final approval.
