Downtown committees, staff report on events, parking, trolley and construction progress

Committee chairs and city staff provided multiple operational updates to the Downtown Management Board on May 20, 2025 covering promotions, event planning, parking infrastructure, trolley service and several construction projects.
Missy Isevito, the newly introduced marketing communications and promotions director, told the board "our shopping apps should be printed and available to us on the 20 second, so this Thursday," and announced Wake Up Downtown will be at the Perry Hotel at 8 a.m. on Thursday. She also previewed upcoming events including Sounds of Summer, Sidewalk Sales and Movies in the Park and said the committee is seeking additional sponsors for Movies in the Park.
Design committee members said they will not move forward with the proposed Hollywood sign at this time because they do not yet have cooperation from the property owner; instead they plan to advance previously approved gazebo lighting and a facade outreach effort to building owners to encourage grant applications for facade improvements.
City staff provided a series of construction and parking updates: Park Avenue north-block sidewalk paving is expected to begin after Memorial Day, light-pole restoration and East Lake Street paving are targeted the week of June 2–9, and the Seville parking lot concrete work was complete with striping and pay stations to follow. Staff said the Seville lot will be open for the holiday weekend though pay stations were not yet installed. Shane reported the Bayfront Arboretum Trail concrete work was completed and the trail should reopen by the end of the week.
On parking and mobility, staff said pay stations for Petrie Park, Garden and Seville will arrive Monday and that the downtown trolley will run June 12 through Sept. 1, Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Miss Saunders noted the trolley "is gonna start June 12 through September 1. It's gonna run 4 days from 11 to 4, Thursday through Sunday."
The board also discussed holiday-tree replacement in Pennsylvania Park, progress on a planned dog park location, and mural repair work in a tunnel where concrete restoration is concluding and the muralist will return to finish painting.
Members reminded staff about scheduling considerations (one member recommended an 8:15 a.m. start for Wake Up Downtown meetings to improve attendance for participants with school drop-offs) and thanked staff for coordination amid multiple simultaneous projects.
