Hanover Area board approves budget with no tax increase, authorizes action on $1.2 million in delinquent taxes

At its May 22, 2025 meeting, the Hanover Area School District Board of Education approved a slate of financial items, adopting a budget the board said includes no tax increase and authorizing action on delinquent tax collections.

Board members approved items 1 through 19 on the financial agenda by roll call. During discussion, the board noted the proposed budget includes no tax increase for the coming year.

A board speaker described item 13 as an authorization for the district to retain services to pursue outstanding real‑estate claims and to attempt to collect approximately $1,200,000 in delinquent taxes more than two years old. The speaker characterized the step as an effort to close a budget gap and said the board had taken "an aggressive stance" on the matter.

The board approved the financial package on a roll‑call vote. No specific collection methods, timelines or target parcels were disclosed in the public remarks.

During public comment earlier in the meeting a resident asked about a transportation billing line in the April financial exhibit that referenced an apparent $171,000 payment; staff explained billing notes include transportation for regular district routes and occasional additional charges for events, and that the monthly total was not far from prior months' totals.

The board did not disclose specific amounts for bond or purchase transactions tied to other agenda items during the financial vote discussion; those items were discussed separately on the agenda.
