Staff summarized the commission’s recommendations: support for Bangor Ballet production costs for the 2025 "Nutcracker in a Nutshell" at the Gracie Theatre; Bangor Beautiful requesting $2,000 for a mural project at Downey School involving Downey and Bangor High School students; a $500 exhibit request from the Bangor Public Library to celebrate artist Jeremiah Pearson Hardy; a $2,000 award to the Downtown Bangor Partnership to launch a community-centered public-art project called Free Art Exchange Boxes; and funding for a Bangor Rocks program run by the Maine Academy of Modern Music.
A councilor moved to accept the Cultural Commission’s recommendations and the motion received a second. The committee discussion clarified that the various organizations are separate institutions and that the Cultural Commission has two grant cycles each year.
The committee forwarded the recommendations to the full City Council for final approval; the council will take action at a future meeting.
