Committee holds first public hearing on Bangor City CDBG annual action plan; $833,000 allocation noted

The Bangor City Business & Economic Development Committee on June 2 held the first of two required public hearings on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual action plan. City Community Development Officer Robin Stanicky told the committee the city has received an allocation of approximately $833,000 for the coming program year.
Stanicky said the program has statutory limits on certain spending categories, including an administrative cap of 20% and a 15% limit for nonprofits and public services. She said the city has published an initial draft of the annual action plan on the city website and produced a public-facing display in the lobby with a QR code that links to the draft.
The draft prioritizes several community challenges and proposed objectives to address them, Stanicky said, including workforce-related childcare, public services for the homeless and people with special needs, and addressing vacant buildings and rental-housing safety and habitability.
No members of the public offered comment at the hearing. Stanicky said the second required hearing will be held at the next scheduled City Council meeting on June 9, after which the full council will take formal action on the plan.
The committee did not take formal action at the June 2 hearing; the hearing served to receive public feedback and review the draft plan before the council-level hearing and decision.
