Trenton council discusses park restroom, sidewalk repairs and community holiday tree plan

The Trenton Town Council on Dec. 10 discussed plans to add an accessible restroom at the town park, repair deteriorated sidewalks along the parade route and buy artificial Christmas trees for a community decorating event.

Council members said the park’s current restroom access is not handicap accessible and noted daytime users of an adjacent building must use interior facilities that require climbing steps. Councilmembers discussed requesting final price estimates for one or more modular restrooms and separate cost estimates for sidewalk repairs from the corner through First West so the council can consider using park funds to pay for construction.

Council members also discussed an informal proposal to purchase the nearby West Cash building and convert it to a restaurant. A council member said the building sits over a pipe and “there’s a ditch around right under the” structure, creating practical constraints; the council agreed any purchase would depend on addressing those utilities and on cost. The council did not take formal action on acquisition.

On holiday activities, one council member proposed buying several 12-foot artificial trees the town could assemble and reuse for an annual “decorate-a-tree” night for children and families. The council discussed asking for donations but said the town could use town funds if needed; members asked staff to add the tree idea to next month’s agenda for further planning and budget review.

No formal motions were made to authorize purchases or construction at the Dec. 10 meeting; councilmembers asked staff to get firm price estimates and to bring the items back to a future agenda for decisions.
