Public works staff updated the council on sewer, water and gas operations and requested approval to pursue a 3-inch submersible pump to manage rising groundwater at a dewatering site.
Sewer staff reported membrane systems are running well and treatment volumes have fluctuated between about 186,000 and 197,000 gallons on reporting days. Staff said a 2-inch dewatering pump is not adequate and recommended purchasing a 3-inch submersible to keep groundwater and trench water under control. Council asked public works staff (Chad and Jeff in the transcript) to check availability and pricing for the pump and to proceed as appropriate.
Public works also reported a state pipeline safety audit scheduled for the third week of February, additional annual reporting to the federal Energy Information Administration, and increased continuing-education (OQ) credit requirements from MEA for gas qualification. The gas master plan draft is in review and expected to be returned to council after staff feedback.
Staff noted progress on installation of infrastructure associated with a sewer effluent system and concrete footing and building delivery to protect hardware. The council instructed staff to pursue the pump replacement and advised staff to return with cost estimates and procurement steps.
