The Trousdale County Board of Education voted 3–2 to adopt a hiring timeline for a new director of schools that establishes October 6 as the hire/onboarding date and January 1 as the official contract start date.
Board members debated several proposed timelines during new business. One plan set a July 7 onboarding date, another proposed October start, and a third option would have set a January 1 on‑the‑job start. After discussion about training time, fiscal impacts of paying two administrators concurrently and holiday interruptions, the board voted to post the job in March and to use October 6 as the onboarding/hire date; the official contract date listed for the incoming director will be January 1.
Board member Kerr made an initial motion to use July; that motion failed for lack of a second. A later motion adopting the October timeline was seconded and carried by a 3–2 vote. Board members Kerr, Bodie and Woodard voted in favor of the October timeline; two members voted opposed. Several board members said they preferred an earlier onboarding to provide more time for shadowing and transfer of institutional knowledge, while others favored waiting to reduce the period during which the district would pay two full‑time administrators.
Administrators said the timeline balances fiscal considerations (paying two leaders concurrently) with the practical needs of onboarding; Dr. Satterfield (the current director) is expected to remain in office through December 31 under terms discussed during the session, and the board’s October choice would allow several weeks of overlap prior to the contract date. The board approved the official hiring timeline to guide the upcoming recruitment and said HR would post the position in March per the adopted schedule.
