Hanover Area recognizes student-athletes for academic achievements

The Hanover Area School District Board of Education recognized students and athletics accomplishments during its Feb. 11 meeting, naming Lily Matthews the January junior-senior high School Student of the Month and honoring football and field-hockey athletes for academic achievement.
Superintendent Barrett introduced the student honorees and noted Matthews plans to pursue a registered nursing degree. Coach Richardson presented the football team’s scholastic honors, saying the program emphasizes academics first. "The student comes first before the athlete," Richardson said. He described the team as "leaders in the classroom" and said players balanced athletics with academic expectations.
The board also recognized a field-hockey all-state academic team, with named students including Joanna Eelick, Kendra Fisher, Ava Malakari, Lily Matthews, Casey McGlynn, Olivia Monte, Krista Shree and Kelsey Rang.
The recognitions were presented during the superintendent’s report and concluded without contested action.
