The Haysville USD 261 Board of Education voted unanimously to recommend Hutton Construction as the district's construction manager at risk for the upcoming bond effort and potential construction work, board members said at the meeting.
Assistant superintendent and facilities staff described a multi-step selection process that included an architect-led review and scored interviews. District communication said three companies presented to a selection committee, and Hutton scored highest on the district's evaluation sheet.
Bridal Rowley, vice president of Hutton's Wichita-area office, addressed the board and described the company's immediate role: "kind of the next steps for us are to get engaged in the information campaign and come alongside you and make sure that the information's out there for the community to know what they're voting on," Rowley said.
Board action Board member Jennifer (last name recorded as Bayne in the meeting) made the motion to approve Hutton as the CMAR; another board member seconded. The board voted 5-0 to approve the recommendation.
Why it matters The district is preparing for a bond election scheduled for April 8; the CMAR will work with Alloy (the district's architect) and the district to refine project costs, advise on constructability, assist with community information and, if the bond passes, manage the construction process under the CMAR delivery model.
What was said during selection District representatives said the selection committee included administrators, maintenance leadership and two board members who participated in scoring. The district characterized the three candidates as "very reputable companies" and said the committee used an official score sheet to select the top-ranked firm.
Next steps The district said it will finalize a contract with Hutton and begin engaging the CMAR in bond-community outreach and committee meetings as the district moves toward the April election. Hutton indicated it will begin supporting information efforts immediately and assist with preconstruction planning if the bond is approved.
Vote recorded Motion: Approve Hutton as construction manager at risk. Mover: Jennifer Bayne (motion recorded at the meeting) Second: (recorded) Vote: 5-0 (approved).
