The Cottage Grove City Council unanimously approved a subgrant intergovernmental agreement with Lane County for $760,979 to upgrade the Cottage Grove Community Center as a resiliency hub, funding HVAC replacement, a backup generator and shelter supplies for up to 100 guests.
Public Works Director Mr. Stewart said the city joined a county grant application earlier in the year to establish several resiliency hubs. The city’s application requested funds for HVAC improvements, a backup power generator and a feasibility assessment for solar and seismic upgrades; the proposal also included purchasing supplies for sheltering 100 guests. Stewart told the council there is no cost to the city for the grant and that the city will manage the project using the awarded funds.
Councilor Ervin moved to approve the agreement and Councilor Bridal seconded. The motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. Councilors praised staff for pursuing the grant and noted the project is intended to make the community center a reliable shelter resource during natural disasters and other emergencies.
City staff will administer the grant and proceed with feasibility work and procurement under the intergovernmental agreement, returning to council as required for project oversight and contract approvals.
