Forest Lake National Honor Society students report 2,000+ service hours, ongoing elementary outreach

Sadie Crosska, an advisor for the Forest Lake Area High School National Honor Society, reported to the board Feb. 6 that the society has 48 active members and has logged more than 2,000 volunteer hours since September. Crosska said members collaborate with student council on activities such as an elementary-school mental-health day in May, trick-or-canning on Halloween that raised more than 1,000 cans for Family Pathways, kindergarten roundups, turkey bingos, and other service events.
Crosska described membership standards and service requirements: juniors must meet a GPA and complete 40 hours of service during the school year, seniors have a higher GPA threshold and a 50-hour requirement, and individual members may pursue an "ambassador" recognition for reaching 100 service hours. Crosska said the society has contributed more than 400 hours in elementary schools this year and that roughly 15 students earned ambassador recognition last year.
