Immigrant advocates urge Arlington to publish resources and designate points of contact ahead of expected deportation actions

Multiple public commenters urged the Arlington County Board to publish clear information and designate county points of contact to help families facing detention or deportation.

Esther Nunez, speaking during public comment, called on the board to distribute clear instructions on the county website about “what to do if a loved one is detained or deported,” to make announcements on local social media, and to create or designate a resource center and a named point of contact to connect families to immediate assistance. She framed the request as urgent preparation for an incoming federal administration she said might pursue large‑scale deportations.

Other speakers—community groups and residents from La Colectiva and VOICE—raised related concerns about immigrant displacement and housing instability. Board members and the county manager responded that the county had updated online resources (citing a refresh of posted materials from 2016) and that staff would continue outreach. The manager said the county has resources available in English and Spanish and that the manager’s office would work on making those clearer and more visible.
