The Santa Ana City Council introduced for first reading an ordinance amending Article 2 (Use Districts) of Chapter 41 (Zoning) to align the city’s accessory dwelling unit (ADU) regulations with changes in state law under Senate Bill 1211.
Councilmembers said they had reviewed the staff report and did not request a staff presentation. Councilmember Jonathan Hernandez moved to introduce the ordinance and the motion was seconded; the council voted 7-0 to introduce the ordinance for a first reading and determined the action is not subject to CEQA pursuant to the cited guidelines in the staff report.
Councilmember Jesse Lopez added that the city’s housing finance trust will roll out an ADU program in partnership with CalOptima and staff, and the council indicated they would share program information with residents about how to apply. There were no in-person or Zoom speakers and no e-comments specific to the public hearing.
Vote to introduce ordinance (first reading): 7 ayes, 0 nays.
