- Galls contract amendments: The council approved staff recommendations to execute documents amending contracts with Galls for police uniforms, equipment and supplies. Staff disclosed there had been a temporary contract-authority gap in 2024 and said the city attorney asked the department to redo the piggyback contract alignment with Los Angeles’ procurement cycle. The motion passed.
- Housing Authority minutes and financial reports: The Housing Authority approved minutes for the Nov. 12, 2024 meeting and received the September 2024 financial and operational reports (citywide).
- Entertainment permit for sanctuary by Wedgwood Weddings: Council granted an entertainment permit with conditions for a wedding/event venue (600 E. Fifth St.), including limits on operating hours, outdoor amplification rules tied to the municipal noise code, permit-holder notification requirements and neighborhood outreach conditions.
- CDBG and NSP amendments: Council approved substantial amendments to the city’s Consolidated Plan action plans to reallocate funds (including $300,000 for land acquisition for affordable housing and $2.87 million to a Home Improvement Roof Grant Program) and to close out Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds per HUD guidance.
- Return of modular shelter grant: Council authorized returning an advance payment grant to the state for the modular non-congregate shelter project; city staff said the modular units remain city assets and will be repurposed or offered for partnership opportunities with nonprofits or other jurisdictions.
- Short-term rental ordinance: The council adopted an ordinance amending Chapter 5.77 of the Long Beach Municipal Code regulating short-term rentals; the ordinance was read and adopted as read.
Most items passed with unanimous votes and were designated for administrative follow-up by the responsible departments.
