Laurie Williams, who said she was representing Shell, told the commission the request was essentially an image update that would replace the static price digits with 18‑inch illuminated digits and that the structure and size would otherwise remain unchanged. “They are requesting we get a changeable copy, for that panel there. It's 18 inch, illuminated digits,” Williams said. She told the commission the applicant would comply with recommended design conditions and with any additional review required by the university‑area boards.
Commissioners and staff discussed sight‑lines, the appearance of a skirted monument base and coordination with the university review board. The commission recorded a motion to approve the application with the staff conditions, and the application was approved during the meeting.
The approved action allows conversion of the fuel pricing panel to a single changeable LED panel (red, 18‑inch digits as presented), with the structure otherwise unchanged, subject to design details and lighting intensity limits to be finalized in permit review and any necessary university district approvals.
