Council reappoints two and names one new member to Park City Fire Service District board

The Summit County Council on Jan. 20 reappointed John Hanrahan and Alex Golinski and appointed Nate Brown to the Park City Fire Service District Administrative Control Board.

Hanrahan and Golinski each told the council they appreciated the opportunity to continue serving. Both council members and staff highlighted the board’s work overseeing the district’s budget, equipment planning and wildfire-prevention measures. Golinski and Hanrahan said they had relied on the county attorney’s office and county HR for legal and disciplinary guidance when issues arose.

Nate Brown, who currently serves on Basin Recreation, told the council his experience on that board and longtime service in the Park City area made him a candidate with familiarity in district-level governance and public outreach.

Council members noted the fire district’s capital needs — including multi-year replacement schedules for engines and apparatus — and the effect of growth and wildfire risk on district planning. The council and board members discussed how recent changes to impact fees and ongoing wildfire mitigation programs affect the fire district’s finances.

The council approved the cohort of appointments with the term for the newly appointed member set through Dec. 31, 2028. Staff will follow up to finalize appointment paperwork and issue reappointment letters.

Ending: The council said the board and staff should continue monitoring wildland-urban-interface policies at the state level because pending bills may require additional inspections and could have budget implications for local districts.
