Leander resident urges crosswalk fixes and clarity on new senior center capacity

Bernardi asked the council to consider installing a four-way stop at that intersection to address speeding and sight-line concerns. She also asked for an update on the city’s new senior center project, saying some existing programs host 50 or more participants and citing a previous city email with room-size figures: a 650-square-foot game room (listed as comfortable for 20 people), a 1,000-square-foot activities room (40 people), a 1,750-square-foot multipurpose room (100 people), and a 600-square-foot fitness room (12 people). Bernardi said she had heard the senior-center kitchen would not be accessible to program users and asked staff to clarify whether the finished facility will meet current demand for classes and activities.
City staff did not provide a detailed response during public comment; earlier in the meeting the CIP program manager discussed nearby roadway work and scheduling for evening paving and landscaping but did not address the crosswalk request or the senior-center kitchen access during the public remarks. Council acknowledged the public comment and the item was recorded for the official record.
No formal action or vote on traffic-calming measures or senior-center design was taken at the meeting; council members and staff may follow up with the resident and return any specific proposals to a future agenda.
