The Benbrook City Council voted unanimously March 6 to award the city’s miscellaneous mowing contract to Brightview Landscape Services for $50,522.50.
City Public Service Director Bennett Howell told the council the city has used an outside mow contract since 2018 and that parks staff would continue mowing some areas including Dutch Branch Park, Lakeview Rideaway and the Hacking Back Trails. Howell said the contract covers 28 locations including city complexes, monument signs, green ribbons, various rights-of-way, the cemetery, parks and several ditches.
Howell presented the bid results, saying Brightview submitted the low bid of $50,522.50. Mean Green Lawn Care bid $55,403 and Lawn Patrol Service bid $65,190. Staff recommended awarding the contract to Brightview. "Staff recommends that the city council approve the contract to Brightview Landscape Services for the miscellaneous mow contract for $50,522.50," Howell said.
Councilmember Tyner moved to approve the contract; Councilmember Franklin seconded the motion. The council chair opened voting and the motion "carried unanimously," according to the meeting record. The council did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript provided.
The contract will replace the prior arrangement the city used in recent summers; Howell did not identify an implementation start date in the presentation, and no follow-up assignments or reporting requirements were recorded in the meeting minutes.
The council moved on to informal citizen comments after the vote.
