Delegate Jeffrey Long urged a favorable report on House Bill 371 on March 6, legislation that would allow up to three speed monitoring systems on Maryland Route 5 in Prince George's County to address a long history of crashes and fatalities.
Long said Maryland 5 is a dangerous corridor that has seen several fatal crashes and described heavy constituent demand for action. "This dangerous corridor with a long history of excessive speeding, reckless driving, and most tragically preventable accidents," Long said, urging the committee to approve the bill as amended to conform with existing speed-camera protocols.
Long said the bill was adopted unanimously by the Prince George's County delegation and that the measure mirrors the speed-camera protocol used elsewhere in the state. Committee members had no questions during the brief presentation; no vote was taken at the March 6 hearing.
