Kootenai County commissioners on March 6 approved two personnel position conversions and voted to enter an executive session to discuss the county transit organizational chart.
The board unanimously approved a Sheriff's Office request to combine two existing positions (listed in the agenda as positions 337 and 3141) into a single new patrol sergeant position for the Sheriff's Civil Division. Captain Andy Deak told commissioners the change consolidates supervision in the civil section and that the county auditor’s cost projection shows a net savings this fiscal year and in future years. Commissioner Everline said the projected savings—“31,000 almost 32,000”—was “a significant savings.”
The board also approved a conversion in Building and Grounds, moving position 170-36 from maintenance operator to senior maintenance operator. Jeff Fuller, director of Building and Grounds, said the change is related to an existing senior maintenance operator moving to a part-time role and that the county intends to keep that worker at the same pay rate; Fuller said the vacated position was backfilled with a new hire at the senior level.
After discussing the two conversions, Commissioner Everline moved to enter executive session “pursuant to item code 70 four-two 61 B.” A second was recorded and the motion passed with all commissioners voting “aye.”
