Auction committee buys small-animal scale; Fair Board approves memorandum to formalize scale sharing

The Jefferson County Livestock Auction Committee told the Fair Board it has purchased a small-animal scale to improve weigh-in operations for sheep, goats and hogs and proposed a reconfiguration of scales on the grounds.
Mark Wunsch, JCLA chair, described the plan: move the larger beef/steer-capable scales that currently sit near the hog wash rack to the beef-wash location, replace them with the newly purchased small-animal scale, and set the new scale on the concrete pad north of the hog barn. Wunsch said the new small-animal scale has a smaller footprint and the existing large scales will still be available for heavier livestock.
Wunsch asked the board to authorize a short written agreement to document ownership and shared use arrangements. A board member moved that Bart (county fairgrounds manager) and Mark draft "something written up in agreement in simple form" that clarifies ownership and shared use; the motion was seconded and the board approved the request.
Board members asked about power and pad compatibility and noted the beef-wash rack’s potential extension could require a slab move later; staff said they would coordinate pads, power and any future concrete work.
