Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery pitches community cornhole tournament at fairgrounds

Representatives from Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery presented a proposal to host a cornhole (board) tournament at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds as a fundraiser and family-friendly community event.
Staley McNunda, development director for Mountain Star, said the organization provides child-abuse-prevention services for families with children ages 0–5 at multiple Central Oregon sites. "Every child in our community deserves the best start possible," McNunda said, describing Mountain Star’s therapeutic-classroom and home-visit services and noting the organization’s local advisory-board roots.
Tina and Roy Jackson (advisory-board members) described plans for an inaugural Shamrock Showdown cornhole tournament on March 15 at the Corwin Arena, with round-robin pool play and bracketed playoffs. Organizers plan to run four lanes simultaneously, include family activities, and invite food trucks and community partners; they asked for use of the arena and for the loan of cornhole boards.
The board expressed support, noting the fairgrounds’ improved facilities and staff capacity to host community events. Several board members said they hoped to field a Fair Board team for the event, and staff said cornhole boards could be loaned for the fundraiser.
Ending: Mountain Star will continue organizing the tournament and coordinate logistics with fairgrounds staff; the board welcomed the event and indicated willingness to support and attend.
