Austin council adopts 'site-plan light' for small multifamily projects after amendments

The ordinance, as approved, creates an expedited site-plan and subdivision process intended to make smaller multifamily development less costly and quicker to complete while retaining city oversight through other safeguards. Councilmember Ellis said the change is “phase 2” of earlier work that removed full site-plan review for three- and four-unit projects and that staff and stakeholders spent more than two years refining the approach.
