Calendar and Rules schedules dozens of measures for Monday; two items pulled for further action

Chairlady Moody opened the Calendar and Rules committee Thursday, saying, "Good morning, and welcome to Calendar and Rules," and led the panel through a procedural review of 39 agenda items to set the House calendars for next week.

The committee approved placing the bulk of measures on Monday’s consent or regular calendars by voice vote, with members repeatedly calling "aye" after questions were called. Most items were placed on the consent calendar; several were placed on the regular calendar after members or staff noted amendments. One bill was referred to the Finance Committee for further action.

Why it matters: the committee’s scheduling choices determine which measures receive expedited consideration on the floor (consent calendar) and which will be debated on the regular calendar. Moving a bill from the consent to the regular calendar can signal the presence of amendments or potential debate, and re-referrals (for example, to finance) delay further floor action until additional review.

Committee action and adjustments

The meeting was procedural and focused on placement of bills rather than substantive debate.
