In his superintendent’s report at the March 1 meeting, District 11 leaders summarized multiple district developments.
Galileo Middle School: The superintendent said the state board of education unanimously (9–0) approved District 11’s turnaround plan to create a community school pathway at Galileo; the district will use partner Joint Initiatives to provide on‑site supports at the Ascend Center and expects planning work this year with program rollout starting next year. The district said Galileo will be Colorado’s first community middle school under that pathway.
Recognition: Mary Faith Hall, cofounder of Thomas McLaren School, received a lifetime award from the Colorado League of Charter Schools; Hall — whose school began in 2007 and now serves K–12 — addressed the board and said the partnership with District 11 has been positive.
Teacher hiring and compensation: The superintendent announced a teacher hiring fair (March 8) and reported stronger recruitment; a district starting salary of $50,500 was cited. He also said the district posted a new $100,000 annual teacher position (one‑off, site‑based master teacher role) under site‑based budgeting to recognize expanded classroom and coaching responsibilities.
Attendance and supports: District staff are rolling out a PowerSchool attendance suite (SMS digest and postcards) and plan to share an attendance update with the board in a work session before year‑end. The superintendent emphasized attendance’s statistical link to student success.
Community supports: The district said the Ascend Center (partners onsite) will provide family and mental‑health supports as part of Galileo’s community school model; timeline and partner details will be posted and updated.
Ending: The superintendent said weekly or regular updates will continue in work sessions and board meetings and invited families with choices to return to Jenkins if they wish; staff will publish reports and timelines on the district website.
