Superintendent reports jump in CTE credentials, notes wellness day, attendance efforts and upcoming family events

Superintendent Nakia Hardy told the Lexington City Schools Board of Education the district has seen a marked increase in career and technical education credential attainment and shared several updates on staff wellness, attendance incentives and upcoming family engagement events.
Hardy reported the number of credentials earned by students more than doubled, from 276 in 2023–24 to 565 in fall 2024. “The number of credentials earned by our students has more than doubled,” Hardy said, crediting CTE teachers and staff for increased student performance on assessments. Hardy said the district is committed to expanding CTE so students graduate with employable skills and credentials that support postsecondary options or immediate employment.
Hardy also described a staff health and wellness day held Feb. 17 that offered free wellness services including health screenings and relaxation activities. She announced employee appreciation day on March 7 and said the district will recognize athletic teams and student accomplishments at the April board meeting.
On attendance, district staff described weekly enrollment and attendance reporting, social‑worker coordination with counselors, transportation problem‑solving and attendance incentives. Hardy said students who exceed a 95% monthly attendance rate are being recognized and that HR is doing monthly staff recognition to encourage consistent attendance.
Hardy noted this is Arts in Education Month and previewed a second annual family reunion event at Lexington Senior High School on Tuesday, March 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. She encouraged community members to RSVP; the superintendent also reminded families about the district mobile app and parent portal for updates.
The board heard a series of staff spotlight recognitions during the meeting, including Courtney Byrd (special education paraprofessional), an MTSS coordinator (Miss Swink) at Southwest Elementary, Dr. Elizabeth Younger at Southwest Global Academy, Ashley Hinkle, and Stacy Holden, each recognized for contributions at their schools.
No board action was required for the superintendent’s informational report.
