Director of the Hawaiʻi Community Development Authority provided a monthly update at the March 5 meeting reporting that Canoa Winds recently installed a vertical wind turbine at the Kalaʻiwa Heritage and Legacy Foundation property and that the turbine is believed to be operational.
Director Nakamoto told the board equipment has also been delivered for other HCDA sites in Kakaʻako and Lotsee and that installations at those locations will occur at a later date. Board members asked follow-up questions about on-site conditions: Member Streitz asked whether the foundation was conducting eradication efforts to address feral chickens and roosters at the site and Member Gordner asked whether the foundation’s operations are exposed to potential federal funding fluctuations, including anticipated NOAA funds referenced in the foundation’s February report.
Nakamoto said staff would follow up with the foundation to provide answers to those questions and to report back to the board. No formal action or vote was taken on the report.
