Historic Design and Review Commission adopts minutes, approves consent items and records postponements

The San Antonio Historic Design and Review Commission convened March 5, 2025, approved minutes from its Feb. 15 meeting and approved consent agenda items 1 through 5 with staff stipulations. The commission also recorded that items 7, 9 and 10 were postponed or withdrawn at the applicants’ request.

Commissioners approved the Feb. 15 meeting minutes and the consent agenda by roll call. Staff told applicants on the consent agenda that certificates of appropriateness or commission action letters would be emailed within 10 days and that no work may begin without the appropriate city permits.

Separately during the meeting the commission approved two certificates of appropriateness: one to add porch columns at 501 East Locust and one for green decorative window film at a Starbucks on East Houston Street with stipulations that branded text/logos be removed and final decorative graphics be returned to staff for review prior to COA issuance. Staff also briefed commissioners on an out-of-compliance situation at 520 Madison: the commission previously denied a 6-foot privacy fence and staff reported that a 3-to-4-foot solid wood fence was subsequently installed; staff is in contact with the property owner and legal counsel and said a formal alternative request had not yet been received.

The meeting adjourned following a brief status update and a motion to adjourn.
