The Nursing Education Workforce Advisory Committee registered three formal actions during the meeting:
1) Approval of minutes: The committee approved the Sept. 12, 2024 meeting minutes with a correction that the ICN conference was held in Aberdeen, Scotland (not Germany). Chair Garrett Chan moved to adopt the minutes with that correction; Dr. Tanya Altman seconded. Roll call recorded two abstentions (Lakandis Ochoa and Judy Karnell) and a majority vote in favor.
2) Delegation of SB 1015 study work: The committee voted to assign the clinical-placement impaction subcommittee to lead work on consortium participation and equitable access and to ask the curriculum-standards subcommittee to study how approved programs maintain clinical education standards. The committee also directed legal staff to assist in clarifying enforcement options related to possible violations of Business and Professions Code section 2786.4. Chair Garrett Chan moved the assignment and Hazel Torres seconded; a roll-call vote produced a majority in favor.
3) Scheduling special meeting: NEWAC voted to schedule a virtual special meeting on June 25 to review two letters submitted by the California Association of Colleges of Nursing and Copper Mountain College. The motion passed by roll call; staff will confirm logistics and invite authors to present.
