Northeastern Technical College outlines multi‑million dollar campus projects, seeks state support for McBee satellite

Ingram outlined allocations including roughly $8.5 million for construction, $1 million for infrastructure upgrades and $2.5 million for mechanical systems.
Ingram also described a planned satellite campus in McBee for which the college has been awarded $3 million for Phase 1. He said the college requested $1.5 million from the state legislative delegation — $750,000 to offset increased construction costs and $750,000 to purchase equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks and welding trainers to support programs including heavy equipment operations, CDL training, welding and allied health. Ingram said the site includes a 28.68‑acre donation from a local company and additional local contributions; architects have prepared a site plan and the college anticipated bid openings and a May groundbreaking for the Sherrall building.
On workforce development and enrollment, Ingram said Northeastern Technical College had 1,309 students across its campuses and provided a county-level breakdown he said reflected recent figures: 571 students from Chesterfield County, 374 from Marlborough County and counts for Dillon and other nearby counties. A council member questioned the Marlborough figure; Ingram said the numbers were the latest available as of the prior week.
Ingram described apprenticeship partnerships with Sheffler and other industry partners, including a multi‑year, employer‑sponsored apprenticeship in which employees remain on company payroll during training. He invited council members to visit campuses and said the college would welcome county engagement at groundbreakings and events.
No formal action or county expenditure was requested at the meeting beyond continued support; Ingram’s presentation was informational and the college will pursue state legislative requests and grant funding as described.
