Board appoints three planning commissioners for district seats; at‑large seats remain open

The Marin County Board of Supervisors on March 4 appointed three district representatives to the Planning Commission and left the at‑large seats open for continued recruitment.

The board approved the following district appointments: Margo Beal to the District 2 seat; Rebecca Lind to the District 3 seat (reappointment); and Leila Monroe to the District 4 seat. The appointments were made by motion and passed on voice votes.

Carla Lehi from the Community Development Agency briefed the board on applications and staff recommendations. She said a number of applicants applied for both district and at‑large seats; staff recommended appointing up to three district members at this meeting and continuing recruitment for at‑large seats. After the appointments, the board instructed staff to continue recruiting for at‑large seats with the application remaining open.

Why it matters: Planning commissioners hear and make recommendations on land‑use and development matters that guide community plans and project approvals. Appointees serve in an advisory and quasi‑judicial role reviewing discrete projects and policy proposals.

Voting: Motions to appoint were moved and seconded by supervisors during the meeting and passed by voice vote. The at‑large positions remain open with staff to continue recruitment.

Ending: Staff said applications for at‑large seats will remain open for two weeks; the Planning Commission will be fully staffed following the later at‑large appointments.
