Franklin County approves payment to Evergy to relocate power lines so Texas Road bridge letting can proceed

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved payment to Evergy for relocation of utility structures needed for the Texas Road bridge construction.
A county project representative told the board Evergy found a 1947 right‑of‑way in its archives and that relocating power poles was necessary to keep the bridge project on schedule. The project representative said Evergy initially estimated relocation at $46,643.54; through negotiations and coordination with Evergy and other utilities the county worked to reduce the cost. At one point the speaker referred to a requested payment amount of $43,651.34; the motion approved by the board was for $34,651.03.
Rod (county staff) reported the bridge bid letting is complete and set for May; staff said the project team is waiting on utilities to be relocated before proceeding with the construction contract. The county also noted ongoing coordination with the phone company and water district and planned brush removal to reduce relocation costs.
Motion and vote: A motion to approve payment to Evergy in the amount of $34,651.03 to relocate existing structures outside the construction limits was moved, seconded and approved by voice/roll call. Commissioners on record voted to approve the payment.
