Board grants chair temporary authority for transition planning, sunsets in 90 days

One commissioner urged continued emphasis on cross-training and succession planning so departments have deputies who can assume duties without interruption; several commissioners echoed that concern and said they expect continuity planning to be part of interim decisions.
The motion directed the chair to act on behalf of the board “to implement and approve some of the organizational, personnel and administrative decisions during this period of transition.” Commissioners agreed to a 90-day sunset so the board can reassess progress and, if needed, extend the delegation.
Board members said the intent is to manage staffing reductions and necessary short-term appointments efficiently while retaining board oversight through the sunset and periodic reporting. The delegation was approved by roll call: Commissioners Smith, Barnett and Black voted yes.
