Teaching and learning staff recommended placing an updated Advanced Placement psychology curriculum on the board table for public review and comment ahead of the April meeting. "These instructional resources will be available for review in the teaching and learning office," the report said. The superintendent recommended placing the curriculum on the table at the March 10 meeting for public review until the next board meeting.
Student services presented three out-of-state field-trip requests for board approval: North Oconee High School students to travel to Washington, D.C., to compete in the 2025 National Congressional App Challenge; North Oconee High School band to travel to Orlando in April; and Oconee County High School DECA students to travel to Orlando to compete at the International Career Development Conference. The superintendent recommended approval of these three trips as presented.
Operations reported an action item to replace five "white fleet" vehicles that have exceeded 200,000 miles. The superintendent recommended awarding the purchase to Aikens Ford for a total bid of $266,851.94 using ELOS and general fund dollars; expected delivery if approved is mid to late July. The board was told three vehicles will be Ford F-250 bodies for maintenance technicians, one F-250 with a reading body for the mechanic supervisor, and one Econoline van for technology work.
Facilities staff recommended Musco Sports Lighting for an upgrade of Oconee County High School's practice field from recreational to competition lighting at a bid of $135,290, to be paid from ELOS and general fund dollars. Facilities also recommended adoption of the Georgia Department of Education local facilities plan, a five-year submission that lists projects eligible for state funding; staff reminded the board that state grants typically cover roughly one-quarter to one-third of a project's cost.
No formal votes on these items were taken at the March 3 work session; the superintendent presented the recommendations and asked the board to consider them at the March 10 regular session.
