Navasota, Texas — Grimes County Emergency Management Services coordinator David Lilly presented an updated inventory of 700/800 MHz (BBWAX) radios at the March 5 commissioners’ court meeting and said the list will be used for 2026 budget planning.
Lilly told the court he verified serial numbers, unit types and assignment with local volunteer fire departments and worked with the auditor and sheriff’s office to reconcile discrepancies. He said the inventory presented does not include the sheriff’s department; the sheriff’s office maintains separate counts that Lilly said were available if the court requested them.
Lilly said several radios previously on older inventories have been removed after local departments confirmed they are out of service. He told the court he is confident the 2025 inventory accurately reflects radios currently in use across the county’s volunteer fire departments and related entities and that he had sent corrections to the central inventory maintainer to improve future lists.
No formal action beyond receipt of the report was requested by Lilly at the March 5 meeting; the court did not direct immediate procurement or disposal actions on the record. Commissioners thanked Lilly for the work and noted the inventory will inform future budget and maintenance decisions for county emergency communications equipment.
