Council approves reallocating MLB grant to Hinojosa and Gonzales parks

The City Council on March 4 approved a resolution authorizing the interim city manager to request reallocation of a 2022 Major League Baseball Youth Development Foundation grant of $33,310 from a planned Pat Williams Park renovation to two other city parks: Hinojosa Park and Gonzales Park.
Interim Assistant to the City Manager John Tang presented the request, explaining that unforeseen costs made the original Pat Williams Park scope infeasible under the award and that staff asked MLB to permit reallocation to two parks where the funds could be used for sod, clay and other beautification work. Tang said the requested reallocation would be limited to the $33,310 award and would cover cosmetic or turf improvements rather than larger dugout or backstop construction initially envisioned for Pat Williams Park.
Council member Perry Munita moved approval and Councilmember John Grass seconded; council approved the resolution on a voice vote with no opposition noted. Tang said the interim city manager is authorized to execute the reallocation letter to MLB and proceed with the revised scope if MLB approves the change.
