Jonesboro committee approves mayoral appointments to boards and commissions

The Nominating and Rules Committee of the City of Jonesboro approved minutes and voted to forward to the City Council a resolution confirming appointments and reappointments to city boards and commissions recommended by Mayor Harold Copenhaver.

The action matters because board and commission appointments determine citizen and stakeholder participation in city advisory bodies, including marketing and tourism work handled by the Jonesboro Advertising Promotions Commission.

At the start of the meeting the committee approved minutes (Minutes 25015) from Feb. 24, 2025 after a motion and second; members were asked to mark their votes and the motion carried. The committee then introduced a resolution to the City Council ‘‘to make appointments and reappointments to boards and commissions as recommended by Mayor Harold Copenhaver.’’ Committee members said the resolution had been pulled from the prior meeting to allow the Nominating and Rules Committee (A&P) to review at-large candidate vetting.

The committee confirmed the following appointment recommendations in the resolution and voted to forward them to the City Council for confirmation: Brian Emerson to the Jonesboro Advertising Promotions Commission for a four-year term ending March 1, 2029; and John Williams to complete the unexpired term of Dan Doss, with that term ending April 30, 2027. The committee chair asked members to mark their votes; the motion carried. No roll-call vote totals or individual vote records were provided in the committee record.
