The Hammond Public Works and Safety Board renewed a gas-station exemption for the BP at 2300 Indianapolis during its Oct. 23 meeting after owner representatives said prior conditions had been addressed.
The station’s representative, who identified himself as Anish Chitalkat, told the board he had contacted staff and Sergeant (or Lieutenant) Godi to confirm whether outstanding items required correction and that he was informed there was nothing outstanding. Chitalkat spoke for the owner and said prior items — such as removal of a defunct pay phone, repair of a leaning south-side fence and an ADA access adjustment — had been handled.
Staff said they had no new objections to renewing the exemption, and a board member stated they had no objection to renewing. A board member recommended approval, another concurred, and the board approved the renewal. The record includes reference to prior board findings in “Order 23” from the previous year but no new findings were entered at the Oct. 23 meeting.
The board did not add new conditions at the renewal. Staff said they rely on follow-up from police and building inspections if additional issues arise.
