VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Vanderburgh County commissioners on Jan. 28 approved three items from the Health Department: an interlocal agreement to provide Pre‑to‑3 home-visiting services to DuBois County, a memorandum of understanding with the University of Southern Indiana to train students as Matter of Balance coaches, and a moving-services contract to Shuttler Moving and Storage to assist with furnishing the health department’s newly leased facility.
The Pre‑to‑3 program provides weekly home visits from birth to age 3 aimed at reducing infant mortality by supporting infants and families. Health Department staff described the program as a homegrown model the county has run and is expanding to neighboring counties; the county had a similar contract in 2024 and this agreement updates pricing for 2025.
The MOU with the University of Southern Indiana will allow health department staff to train USI students to become certified coaches to assist with Matter of Balance classes, which aim to reduce fear of falling and increase activity among older adults. The moving-services proposal will cover assistance moving furniture into the department’s newly leased space; staff said IT work is nearly complete and they expect to occupy the facility in the coming weeks.
All three items passed on unanimous voice votes.
