VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — The Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 28 to commit local matching funds for two Indiana Department of Transportation (NDOT) Community Crossings grant applications, accept new subdivision streets and approve three right-of-way offers tied to a small-structure replacement on Nisbett Road.
The board approved a financial commitment letter for NDOT Community Crossings application No. 14337, a paving project whose estimated local share is $656,275. John, the county engineer, said the work covers paving on three segments including Saint Joe, Caressle, Darmstadt, Hindeline and Baseline roads. "It'd be Road and Street and Highway contractual funds," John said, adding the county may seek additional appropriations after final bid lists are determined.
The board also approved a second commitment letter for application No. 14358 for the Broadway Avenue bridge, with an expected local share of $528,990.50. John said the Broadway structure is a small bridge near the Posey County line and that, aside from Broadway, Klites and Adler roads are the next candidates for construction bidding if federal funds for another project come through.
Separately, commissioners accepted street improvements for McCutcheon Trace sections 1 through 3, a subdivision south of Bivolman Army between Petersburg and Sybe Road, and approved three right-of-way offers tied to project VC-24-12-001 (Nisbett Road small-structure replacement). The board approved payments of $900 to M A and M J Bale Farms LLC (parcel 1), $3,500 to Hartman Farms Land Partners LLC (parcel 2), and $1,600 to Arlene and Norman Hartman and Hartman Farms Land Partners LLC (parcel 3). John said the contractor had not yet provided a projected start date for the Nisbett Road work.
All votes on the items in this package were recorded as unanimous: Commissioner Gable, Commissioner Canterbury and President Elpers voted "yes."
