Board honors outgoing student representatives; students recap year and share postgraduation plans

The Monticello Public School District school board paused its agenda to hear final reports from the district’s 2024–25 student representatives and to honor the departing students.
Student representatives summarized the school year’s activities and athletic updates: baseball, track and softball seasons were wrapping up, boys tennis had advanced a doubles pair to state, and lacrosse teams were competing in postseason play. Students described baccalaureate services, a well-attended senior sunset event hosted by student council, a senior send-off and teacher farewell activities that included visits to elementary schools and time at the middle school.
Students also shared postgraduation plans: one student said they will attend the University of St. Thomas to study international business and business analytics with an interest in law; another said they will attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison for nursing. The superintendent, Eric Olsen, described two highlights from the year—a student-led podcast project and a community listening session in which student voices were instrumental—and presented the students with college gift baskets on behalf of the board. Cake was made available to meeting attendees.
The recognition was celebratory; no action was taken. Board members and staff thanked the student representatives for their service and invited them to remain involved with district activities when they return to town.
