The Franklin County Commission approved a rezone application May 28 to move 19.18 acres of a roughly 80‑acre parcel at 3478 Louisiana Road into the RE district.
County staff told the commission the property is about 1.75 miles west of Ottawa and currently contains a house served by water and sewer. The applicant is asking to split the 19.18‑acre portion through a future subdivision plat to create two roughly equal 10‑acre parcels; the remaining approximately 60 acres would remain in agricultural use. Staff and the planning commission recommended approval.
Commissioners recorded affirmative responses during a roll call following a motion and second; the items' formal motion was approved by the commission.
No conditions or additional rezoning restrictions were recorded in the meeting discussion. Staff said the lot split and creation of separate parcels will be handled later through a subdivision plat process and that there is no significant conservation constraint on the split as presented to the commission.
The commission did not take additional, separate votes on related permits or on the future plat during the meeting; the zoning change was the action before the body.
