Parent group urges public to pay attention to school-board elections during open forum

"A lot of people just, unfortunately, don't pay much attention to school board elections, but they're very important," Thompson said. She asked community members to find out whether they have a school-board election in their area and to vote.
Board members responded, thanking Thompson and noting very low turnout in some nearby districts as an example of low public awareness. One board member highlighted that Sioux Falls had about 2% turnout in a recent election and encouraged early voting.
No formal board action resulted from the public comment; board members made remarks recognizing the importance of public participation.
