Dorchester 2 celebrates robotics teams headed to world championships and HMH 180 award winners

Dorchester School District 2 used its May 19 board meeting to recognize student achievement across the district, including robotics teams that earned invitations to world championships and several winners of the national HMH 180 Awards.
District staff highlighted a community-based Category 5 team that won the Impact Award at the state robotics championship, a middle‑school team (Team 294B, the Robotic Rebels of East Edisto Middle School) that secured a world bid via the state skills ranking, and the Burning Magnetos from Fort Dorchester High School, which finished as state finalists and won both the Engineering Inspiration and Impact awards. Staff noted teams will travel to national or international competitions this summer.
The board also heard from district content interventionist Matt Moschel and others about the district's HMH 180 Awards recognition. The district reported four student winners and two teacher winners from Dorchester 2 this year; staff named student recipients as Kyle Guthrie (Oak Brook Middle School), Eve Roberts (as listed in the packet), Paris Hamilton (Summerville High School) and Raquel Carnahan (Rawlings Middle School). The educator winners listed in the packet were Alexander Blair (Eagle Nest Elementary School) and Stephanie Washington (River Oaks Middle School). District staff said the HMH awards recognize growth and achievement in literacy and math intervention programs.
Board members and staff used the highlights to note district emphasis on STEM, literacy intervention and community engagement; the recognitions concluded the district highlights portion of the meeting.
