The Cleveland Town Council on Jan. 9 approved an addendum to business license records permitting Josh Taylor to sell firearms and ammunition from his home.
The change, presented as agenda item 1, passed after council members asked questions about where stock would be kept, security and whether required federal licensing and background checks were in place. Taylor told the council the operation would be run out of his garage and that he planned to resell purchased firearms and ammunition rather than manufacture them. “A little bit of everything, honestly. Ammunition,” Taylor said when asked what he would sell.
Town staff told the council the county had no objection to the license addendum provided Taylor holds the proper Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) authorization. A staff member also stated that background checks would be required as part of compliance; council members raised security and storage questions during the discussion.
Council members moved and seconded approval and the motion passed by voice vote. The clerk indicated the addendum will be attached to Taylor’s existing license and that he will receive a renewal letter with the consolidated fee information.
The action does not change or summarize any federal obligations for firearms dealers; the council’s approval was limited to the local business-license record and subject to the ATF authorization the staff described.
