Washington County Planning Commission chair Lockwood to leave; minutes for Nov. 20 and Dec. 4 approved

At its Jan. 15 meeting, the Washington County Planning Commission received a director's report from Erin Wardell, assistant director of the Department of Land Use and Transportation, that outlined several upcoming personnel and commission changes.

Wardell said Chair Deborah Lockwood is term-limited and the Jan. 15 meeting will be her last meeting as planning commission chair. "Change is hard sometimes, but change is also sometimes really good," Wardell said. Wardell also said planning commission member Joe Kiser will resign his seat for personal reasons and County Council representative Rob Bovette will take a position with Lane County and leave the county in about a month.

Wardell said this was her last meeting serving in the director role for Planning Commission purposes because she is stepping into a new role; Carol (last name not stated) will assume delegated authority for future planning commission meetings. Wardell said the Board is expected to appoint two new planning commissioners at its Jan. 21 meeting: Nina Carlson for District 3 and James Just for District 4, with those new commissioners expected to start at the Planning Commissions Feb. 5 meeting.

Wardell and commissioners also noted long service milestones: the board recently recognized longtime commissioner Roy Rogers for 40 years on the Board of Commissioners, and the meeting noted Jason Snyder had been sworn in as the newly elected District 3 county commissioner on Jan. 7.

Procedural actions: the Planning Commission approved minutes for Nov. 20, 2024, and Dec. 4, 2024, "without objection," as recorded in the meeting transcript. The minutes were accepted as submitted; no roll-call votes or movers/seconders were recorded for those approvals in the transcript.

Vice Chair Maury Baidu offered public thanks to Chair Lockwood near the meeting's end; the meeting adjourned following brief announcements.
