Commission approves H and N Phase 2 architectural work, chairman to sign contract

The Geary County Commission voted to proceed with a Phase 2 contract with H and N architects to study and plan repurposing and operational needs for a county building project.
Finance staff reported the county could fund initial work and suggested an optional services piece to evaluate management, staffing and law enforcement credential needs. Kimmy Robinson, finance director, described the scope and said the consultant team included justice planners and named individuals the county might consider for the work.
A motion to proceed with the H and N Phase 2 contract passed. Commissioners also requested that the contract and supporting materials be shared with the incoming sheriff so he is aware of the work, and that County staff, including Jeremy, serve as the point of contact for H and N during the project. After the vote, one commissioner asked that the chairman sign the contract so the firm could begin work.
Robinson noted there is about $15,000 remaining in the county’s CIP funds that could be used toward one of the optional services, and she said she would determine the final cost of the additional service and return to the commission for consideration. “We do have, a little bit of funds left in CIP that we could use towards this, 15,000, but, I will determine what kind of a cost this other service is going to be and bring it back to you for consideration on where to pay funds,” Robinson said.
The commission recorded the motion as carried; no roll-call vote was read in the transcript.
